William Bernal, MD, MPH, is a board certified pediatric rheumatologist who joined the faculty at UCSF in 2013. Previously, he was an attending physician in pediatric rheumatology at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where he had completed his fellowship. At CHOP, Dr. Bernal worked in the Center for Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain Syndrome at CHOP for two years.

There, he was a member of a multidisciplinary team that treats pediatric patients with pain amplification syndromes, such as amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome, juvenile fibromyalgia and complex regional pain syndrome. Dr. Bernal is continuing this work at UCSF as part of the Integrative Pediatric Pain and Palliative Care Program (IP3), where he and other providers see pediatric patients with chronic pain.
