Dr. Valcour is a Professor of Medicine with a shared appointment in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and the Department of Neurology. His work crosses disciplines to research and care for cognitive disorders in aging populations. Dr. Valcour directs the Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health training program within UCSF's Department of Neurology. This program supports fellows from around the world who are focused on brain health equity.

Dr. Valcour works with the Atlantic Fellows to support international research around dementia. As such, the program manages a large international portfolio with many opportunities for junior investigators. As of 2025, there are over 300 Atlantic Fellows in 62 countries worldwide and their disciplines range from physicians and neuroscientists to artists. The fellow network offers an unparalleled opportunity for global neurology experiences.

Dr. Valcour is broadly involved in mentoring individuals at all levels of training who are interested in clinical research related to cognitive disorders globally.

RESEARCH

Dr. Valcour’s research interests relate to those of the Atlantic Fellows. He oversees and participates in research in Asia, Latin America and Africa.

ACADEMIC FOCUS

Dr. Valcour is actively engaged in mentoring individuals wishing to become independent clinical researchers. His research portfolio provides a broad array of local and international projects that can serve as resources for mentored projects.
