CLINICAL INTERESTS: Dr. Thomas Ports is director of Interventional Cardiology and co-director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory for adult patients. Since performing the first coronary angioplasty at UCSF Medical Center in 1979, he has accumulated vast experience in performing catheter interventions.

In addition to elective angioplasty, he specializes in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, balloon valvuloplasty of stenotic valves and alcohol septal ablation in obstructive cardiomyopathy. Ports, a professor of medicine at UCSF, is called upon frequently to give second opinions in difficult cases.
