Margolis, a UCSF professor of ophthalmology, is the director of the Francis I. Proctor Foundation for Research in Ophthalmology at UCSF Medical Center. He is also president of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the world's largest eye and vision research organization, and serves on the National Advisory Eye Council of the National Eye Institute. He received his MD and his PhD degrees in neuroscience at UCSF.
