Teresa M. Cheng MD, MSc is a Professor at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center and board-certified internal medicine physician based out of the San Francisco VA Medical Center (SFVAMC) since 2017. She enjoys her work as a primary care provider and providing telehealth urgent care with rural veteran populations in California and Nevada.

She is the educational site director for the Downtown and San Bruno sites of the UCSF internal medicine residency program. She is also the associate chief of the division of general internal medicine at SFVAMC. Dr. Cheng earned her medical degree at SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine. She did her internal medicine residency at Boston University (BU) /Boston Medical Center. After working in primary care and clinic administration in a federally qualified community health center, she did a fellowship in general internal medicine and a Master of Science in health services at Boston University specializing in medical education and women's health.

Following her fellowship, she held several educational leadership positions in BU and brought many innovations in teaching and curriculum, including new curriculum in simulation training, EBM teaching and health care systems. In addition, she is an active mentor of medical students, residents and junior faculty in the areas of medical education and scholarship and received in 2016 the Department of Medicine teaching award and in 2017 the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) Regional award for excellence in medical education.

From 2013 to 2020, she was a member of the national American Board of Internal Medicine Exam Committee. Since 2020, she has been appointed to the ABIM test approval committee.

She is also actively involved with national and regional SGIM at the leadership level. Dr. Cheng has strong interest in mentorship and Asian American Pacific Islander issues and is currently faculty advisor for the UCSF chapter of Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA)
