Susan Kim, MD, MMSc, is a Pediatric Rheumatologist and Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at UCSF Medical School, who sees patients in the Rheumatology Clinics at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital’s San Francisco and Oakland sites.

Dr. Kim specializes in caring for all children and adolescents with inflammatory rheumatic diseases, including Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosis, Vasculitis, Scleroderma and Autoinflammatory conditions, with a particular focus in Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM). Dr. Kim’s research and clinical focus is on JDM, where she is working to improve clinical management, care and outcomes of patients by working to standardize assessments and treatment approaches. She is also working with laboratory and translational researchers to expand our knowledge in this rare condition. As part of this work, she directs the combined Rheumatology Dermatology Clinic at UCSF since 2017 that seeks to improve the care of children with autoimmune skin diseases including JDM. Since 2022 she has led the Juvenile Myositis Center of Excellence at UCSF with support from CureJM. Dr. Kim received her medical degree from SUNY Downstate, and master’s degree from Harvard Medical School, completed a residency in pediatrics at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NYC, completed a fellowship in pediatric rheumatology at Boston Children’s Hospital in 2006 and remained on staff there through 2016 before moving to the Bay Area to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Dr. Kim is a member of the American College of Rheumatology and the Childhood Arthritis & Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA), and the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA). She serves as the elected Chair for the Juvenile Dermatomyositis Disease Committee of CARRA. She also serves as a member of the scientific advisory committee for the International Myositis Assessment & Clinical Studies Group (IMACS) and Medical Advisory Board for CureJM.
