Steven Tringali, DO, FACP, is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Medicine at UCSF Fresno and Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency. Dr. Tringali's clinical work is at Community Regional Medical Center and the VA Central California Healthcare System, where he attends on the medicine wards. His interests are in evidence-based medicine, point-of-care ultrasound, procedural training, clinical reasoning, teaching residents and medical students, and coaching residents to become better teachers.

He has published clinical research in cardiovascular risk factors, including blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, and cardiovascular events. Prior to medical school, he worked as a software developer, and he continues to take a special interest in innovative technology and its potential to transform medical education.

Dr. Tringali is a member of the UCSF Academy of Medical Educators and a graduate of the UCSF Teaching Scholars Program (2014–2015), where his mentored project, "Targeted Needs Assessment for an Inpatient Procedure Curriculum," laid the groundwork for the procedure rotation he later founded. Through the Academy, he has also served on the TOP (Trainee and Observation Program) Transformation Workgroup, helping redesign UCSF's training and observation forms through an anti-racism/anti-oppression lens.

His current medical education scholarship focuses on the transition from undergraduate to graduate medical education, competency-based assessment, and residency program design. Recent projects, presented at UCSF Fresno's Annual Education Symposium and at national meetings of the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine, include the development of individualized learning plans to smooth the transition into residency ("Bridging the Gap"), a ten-year analysis of resident satisfaction with schedule templating, and a study of procedural training equity between junior- and senior-led ICU teams. He also facilitates faculty development workshops on clinical reasoning and feedback.
