Steven Barrie-Anthony, PhD, PsyD, is a research psychoanalyst with a clinical private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area, and across California via telehealth. At UCSF, he provides psychotherapy supervision to residents in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

He is active in researching and publishing, with research interests in psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychotherapy; religion/spirituality; and relationships between emotional experience and spirituality, technology, and social life. Steven recently served as principal investigator and director for a large research initiative examining technologies’ impacts on human relationships, funded by a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation. He has published many popular articles and essays such as for the Los Angeles Times, where he was previously a staff writer. He is a UC Berkeley research associate, and serves on the editorial board of Psychoanalytic Inquiry.
