Sandrijn M. van Schaik, MD PhD is Professor of Clinical Pediatrics with a clinical appointment in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at UCSF. She serves as the Director of Faculty Development in the UCSF School of Medicine Center for Faculty Educators and the Vice-Chair for Education in the Department of Pediatrics.

She is the inaugural Baum Family Presidential Chair for Experiential Learning and has earned numerous recognitions including selection to the National Academy for Distinguished Educators in Pediatrics in the Academic Pediatric Association. Dr. van Schaik completed medical school at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She earned a PhD degree studying the pathogenesis of Respiratory Syncytial Virus infection at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands. She completed pediatric residency at the Floating Hospital, Tufts University, Boston followed by Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship training at UCSF. While on faculty at UCSF, she completed the Teaching Scholar Program followed by a 2-year Medical Education Research Fellowship at UCSF. In 2012, she was selected for the second cohort of the Josiah Macy Jr Foundation Faculty Scholar program. She conducts research in interprofessional collaboration and simulation, and leads program development focused on improving learning environments and faculty development.
