Dr. Saam Morshed is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in caring for patients with traumatic injuries such as broken bones. He treats fractures of the pelvis, arm, elbow, shoulder, ankle, foot, leg and knee. Dr. Morshed serves as section chief of the UCSF Division of Orthopaedic Trauma.

In his research, Morshed studies skeletal injuries to develop new techniques for fracture repair and rehabilitation. He also looks at how to prevent post-traumatic arthritis.

Dr. Morshed received his bachelor's degree from Harvard University and completed medical school and residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. During his residency he was awarded the Orthopaedic Research and Education Society Clinical Research Training Fellowship which funded his studies towards a Master of Public Health degree and eventual Doctor of Philosophy in Epidemiology from the University of California, Berkeley. After residency, Dr. Morshed traveled to Seattle, Washington for a clinical fellowship in orthopaedic traumatology at Harborview Medical Center. In 2009, he joined the faculty of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, (UCSF) as an attending surgeon at the San Francisco General Hospital (SFGH). Dr. Morshed has authored over one hundred peer-reviewed manuscript, over ten textbook chapters and has been awarded numerous awards and grants for his work in clinical outcomes research in orthopaedics and traumatology.
