Russ Pieper, PhD is a lab-based investigator in the UCSF Brain Tumor Center. He received a BS degree in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin and a PhD degree in Pharmacology from The George Washington University in Washington, DC, followed by postdoctoral training and a faculty position at Loyola University-Chicago. Brownstein Chair in Brain Tumor Research and Professor and Vice-Chairman of the UCSF Department of Neurological Surgery. He is also Director of Basic Research in the UCSF Brain Tumor Research Center and co-Leader of the Neuro-Oncology Program in the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. His research has been independently funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute since 1989 and is focused on the role signal transduction plays in the development and therapy of brain tumors. The laboratory is currently focused on how mutant IDH1 expression regulates telomere biology and contributes to the development of lower-grade glioma.
