Rebecca Scherzer, Ph.D. has over 20 years of experience in industry and academia. Dr. Scherzer directs the Biostatistics Core at the KHRC and has served as the principal biostatistician for the Fat Redistribution and Metabolic Change in HIV Infection (FRAM) since 2005 and the HIV Kidney Substudy within the MACS and WIHS since 2009.

Her work has focused on the study of HIV infection and its complications, including kidney disease, cardiovascular risk, body composition, and metabolic changes. To date, she has coauthored nearly 150 papers in this area. Dr. Scherzer serves as a statistical editor for the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN) and Kidney 360, is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (JAIDS), and has served on two NHLBI working groups on HIV and cardiovascular disease. Her recent work has used advanced statistical methods to model associations of biomarkers with kidney disease and cardiovascular disease, including cluster analysis to identify phenotypes of risk and penalized regression for variable selection, and the development of risk scores for medication safety.
