Her main research interest is non-invasive mapping of structural and functional connectivity in the developing brain, from premature neonates to adolescents and young adults. She develops and applies advanced MRI techniques to study the neurobiological substrates of mental disorders (in particular, adolescent depression) and effects of mind-body interventions on children and adolescents. Dr. Tymofiyeva is currently the Principal Investigator for an NIH-funded study of brain plasticity in adolescents undergoing a mindfulness meditation training, the "BrainChange" study: https://radiology.ucsf.edu/research/labs/BrainChange.
