She is board-certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Prior to joining faculty at UCSF in September 2023, Dr. Hutchinson combined clinical work as a hospitalist at the Massachusetts General Hospital with research as a postdoctoral researcher at the Multi-Regional Clinical Trial Center of Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard. Her focus on meta-research, clinical trials, and research ethics emerged during her time as an Internal Medicine fellow and postdoctoral researcher at McGill University, supported by the Fonds de recherche du Québec, Santé.

Dr. Hutchinson seeks to improve research practices so that the conduct and output of research reflect what is most valued by patients. This has shaped her prior work on the patient contribution to clinical trials, early trial termination, novel clinical trial designs, research informativeness, and the ethics of pragmatic clinical trials and learning health systems.
