Nicole Schroeder, MD, serves as the Chief of the Hand, Elbow, and Upper Extremity Service and is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UCSF.

She is also the Director of Orthopaedic electives for the UCSF School of Medicine and Associate Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Schroeder treats a wide range of conditions and traumatic injuries affecting the upper extremity. Her clinical interests include traumatic injuries of the hand and forearm, tendinoses, Dupuytren's contracture, arthritis, vascular and nerve conditions, bone deformities, dislocations and fractures, joint disorders, ligament and tendon injuries, and tumors. She practices at both the UCSF Orthopaedic Institute at the Mission Bay campus and the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

As an educator and mentor, Dr. Schroeder was recognized as the Haile T. Debas Academy Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery, an honor that celebrates excellence in medical student education. She is an active member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, where she serves on the Resident Education Committee. Dr. Schroeder has received numerous awards for her outstanding teaching, including the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery's James O. Johnston, MD, Outstanding Teaching Award in 2012 and 2018, the UCSF Excellence in Teaching Award in 2013, and the Henry J. Kaiser Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Ambulatory Care Setting in 2014. She has been honored for the last several years by the UCSF Muriel Steele Society Honor Roll, which recognizes inspiring and influential women in surgery and surgical subspecialties. Dr. Schroeder is also a member of the Academy of Medical Educators.

Dr. Schroeder earned her bachelor's degree from Williams College and her medical degree from Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at UCSF, followed by a fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Schroeder joined the UCSF Orthopaedic faculty in 2011.
