Nicolas Hatamiya, DO

In research, Dr. Hatamiya's interests include applications of wearable technologies, point-of-care ultrasound, and medical education. He has also performed research in biomechanics, exercise physiology, and sports performance.

Dr. Hatamiya earned his bachelor’s degree in Integrative Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, Calif. He completed a residency in family medicine at Stanford Health Care, at which he served as chief resident and completed a faculty development track. Dr. Hatamiya then completed a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles and a Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.

On the playing field, Dr. Hatamiya is currently the Co-Medical Director for the Oakland Roots USL professional soccer team. While at UCLA, he served as a team physician for the UCLA Bruins, and served as assistant team physician for the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers. Throughout his career, he has also provided care to local high schools and colleges throughout California.

Dr. Hatamiya is currently the Program Director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship program. He is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Family Physicians and Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. In 2020, he received a grant from the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine for a local humanitarian service project. In 2025, he received the Excellence in Student Teaching Award through the UCSF Department of Family & Community Medicine.

Dr. Hatamiya sees patients at the UCSF Orthopaedic Institute in San Francisco, UCSF’s Berkeley Outpatient Center and at the UCSF Sports Medicine Center for Young Athletes in Walnut Creek.
