I am a neurologist trained in neurocritical care. I attend in the neurocritical care unit at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and UCSF. I perform basic laboratory and translational research to improve our ability to diagnose, treat, and prognosticate in patients with stroke and other critical neurologic injuries.

I lead a basic science lab focused on identifying new pathways for neuroprotection and neuro-resilience by focusing on targets identified in human genome-wide association studies and models of ischemia tolerance including the uniquely resilient Arctic ground squirrel. Along with the Clelland lab, we are also doing exciting collaborative work in establishing new models of experimental research in patients and human tissues towards bringing CRISPR cures for neurodegenerative disease closer to clinical trials. We are also working towards more precise biomarkers for critical neurologic injuries along with the Amorim lab.
