Matt Yocum is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at UCSF. Matt completed a combined BS and MS at Cal Poly in Biochemistry and Biomedical Engineering, respectively. He then served as a research intern at Genentech until 2009 when he began Medical School at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MD, 2013).

After medical school, Matt completed a residency program in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota (2017). Matt has board certifications in Internal Medicine (ABIM, 2017), Pediatrics (ABP, 2017) and Pediatric Hospital Medicine (ABP, 2022).
Following his medical training, Matt has served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota (2017 to 2022) and subsequently joined UCSF in September 2022. His primary clinical focus is to provide optimal care for hospitalized adults and children. Matt has had a special interest in bedside procedures as well as point-of-care ultrasound and its utilization in the hospitalized patient. In pursuit of this interest, Matt completed the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certificate (COC) to refine his ultrasound skills in 2020. He uses this skillset to help care for patients, teach other faculty and graduate medical residents as well as pursue related research questions with the aim to better inform patient care.
