Maria Castro, M.D., is a general surgery resident at UCSF. She grew up in Sacramento, CA, and graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Human Biology. She completed medical school at UCSF.

Maria's clinical interests include trauma/acute care surgery and pediatric surgery. Her research pursuits include studying the impact of Limited English proficiency on surgical outcomes. She led the curricular design of the UCSF School of Medicine's COVID Response Elective and well as developed and led anatomy didactics for medical students on their surgery rotation. Outside of the hospital, she loves finding the best dahlias at the farmer's market, playing board games, reading in the sunshine, and scuba diving.
