In particular, she has investigated the roles that social and sexual networks play in determining HIV risk among MSM in China and MSM of color in the U.S. and has also examined the mechanisms through which experiences of stigma and discrimination based on race/ethnicity and sexual orientation affect HIV risk among these men. In addition, she has a strong history of developing and evaluating behavioral HIV prevention interventions targeting MSM as well as women. She developed an efficacious safer sex training intervention to reduce HIV risk behaviors among Asian/Pacific Islander MSM in the U.S., adapted currently available evidence-based behavioral interventions to reduce HIV-transmission risk behavior among HIV-positive MSM in China, developed an efficacious skills training intervention to increase female condom use among ethnically-diverse women in the U.S., and evaluated the feasibility of implementing and assessing a female condom promotion network intervention with ethnically-diverse women in the U.S.
