Dr. Kim's research falls under two themes: 1) advancing MRI methods relevant to MR-guided focused ultrasound through the development of MRI methods, imaging processing, and optimizing the reconstruction pipeline. 2) developing sophisticated sonication strategies for drug delivery and volumetric thermal therapy, and effectively applying these methods to the existing or new focused ultrasound system.

Through a multidisciplinary approach, he continues to push the frontiers of MR-guided focused ultrasound, advancing the method for improved patient outcomes.

Currently, he is the NIDCR K99 awardee (2023-2025) and Trainee Representative of the Interventional MR Study Group in the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (2024-2025).
