Dr. Barrios is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiology at UCSF with a joint appointment in the Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute. His research focuses on developing machine learning methods to better understand complex biological and clinical data, with an emphasis on learning from raw signals such as medical images, video, and physiological waveforms.

Current projects include building foundation models for cardiovascular signals, developing scalable multimodal architectures for clinical data, and designing computational methods that can generalize across heterogeneous patient populations. Dr. Barrios is actively involved in mentoring students and trainees from computational, engineering, and biomedical backgrounds, and welcomes interdisciplinary collaboration.
