José I. Gutierrez, PhD, FNP-BC, AAHIVS is an assistant professor in the Department of Family Health Care Nursing at UCSF. José is interested in research that leverages new and emerging health system interventions for historically excluded and/or veteran populations whose health needs are complicated by restrictive health policy or their socially marginalized statuses within their communities.

Specifically, José's work focuses on applying market research techniques and stated preference methods to understand patient-informed preferences and needs to improve the continuum of care and delivery of sexual/reproductive health services, HIV treatment/prevention, and substance use interventions. Additionally, José is an Associate Program Director for the National Clinician Scholars Program at UCSF, which aims to offer unparalleled training for nurse- and physician-scientists as change agents driving policy-relevant research and partnerships to improve health and health care.
