José I. Gutierrez, PhD, FNP-BC, AAHIVS is a nurse-scientist and assistant professor in the Department of Family Health Care Nursing at UCSF. José is interested in research that leverages new and emerging health system interventions for historically excluded populations whose health needs are complicated by restrictive health policy or their socially marginalized statuses within their communities.

Specifically, José's work focuses on applying market research techniques and stated preference methods to understand patient-informed preferences and needs of vulnerable populations to improve the continuum of care and delivery of sexual/reproductive health services, HIV treatment, and PrEP interventions. Additionally, José is the Associate Program Director of Equity for the UCSF National Clinician Scholars Program, which aims to offer unparalleled training for nurse- and physician-scientists as change agents driving policy-relevant research and partnerships to improve health and health care.
