Jolie L. Chang, MD, is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery and Chief of the Division of Sleep Surgery and General Otolaryngology at the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Chang received her bachelor's and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. She then completed her medical degree and residency training at the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Chang specializes in sleep apnea surgery and minimally invasive approaches for salivary gland surgery including sialendoscopy. Dr. Chang provides comprehensive and individualized evaluations for patients considering surgery for sleep apnea and specializes in drug-induced sleep endoscopy, soft palate surgery, tongue base surgery, snoring surgery, and hypoglossal nerve stimulation implant surgery. She also has clinical expertise in ultrasonography for head and neck disorders.

She is an associate editor for the sleep section of the Laryngoscope journal. She is dedicated to medical education and mentors students and trainees in research as the Director of Resident Research for the Department of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Chang performs research in health care decision making and surgical outcomes for sleep apnea therapies. She was co-editor and primary author on the International Consensus Statement for Obstructive Sleep Apnea. She has also published research on surgical techniques and outcomes for minimally invasive sialendoscopy to treat sialolithiasis (salivary stone) and duct stenosis. She has studied hearing loss and its effect on brain plasticity, auditory function in bone diseases. Dr. Chang completed a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Training Fellowship and has successfully competed for grant funding from the American Academy of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery, the Triological Society, and the UCSF Academic Senate.
