John K. Chan, MD, is the Director of Gynecologic Oncology and a specialist in the surgical and medical treatment of ovarian and other complex pelvic cancers at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Chan oversees the Division’s activities and development in patient care, research and education.

His research focuses on developing new therapies for gynecologic cancers, including genomic therapy and targeted biologic therapies, as well as investigating the role of tumor-initiating cells in ovarian cancer. He is involved in population-based studies examining treatment and health outcome of ovarian and uterine cancer patients. Dr. Chan has also recently been appointed the principal investigator one of the largest advanced ovarian cancer clinical trials in the world, which is currently under development at the National Cancer Institute.
