Jessica Tashjian, MD
Volunteer Assistant Clinical Professor
Anesthesia
School of Medicine
I am a fellowship-trained cardiothoracic anesthesiologist working primarily at the Parnassus campus but also providing care in the Mount Zion and Mission Bay operating rooms. Approximately half of my practice involves caring for patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures including heart or lung transplantation and advanced life support (LVADs and ECMO).

I also provide anesthesia support for complex percutaneous cardiac interventions including TAVRs and other percutaneous structural heart interventions. The other half of my clinical practice is as a general anesthesiologist caring for the complex patients typically seen at our quaternary care facility. As a diplomate of Perioperative Tranesophageal Echocardiography, I am certified to provide this advanced form of monitoring to patients undergoing cardiac and non-cardiac surgical procedures and in intraoperative emergencies.
My academic interests are centered around education. At the medical student level, I participate in small group teaching for cardiothoracic physiology and pharmacology. My involvement in resident education includes directing the junior and senior cardiothoracic anesthesiology rotations, developing curricula for the resident didactic series, and serving on the Wellness Curriculum Steering Committee. I also serve as the Assistant Program Direct for the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship.
