Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine, UCSF

James Comes, MD is board certified in Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Comes earned his medical degree at University of Pennsylvania before completing residency at University of California, San Francisco, Fresno.

Dr. Comes' major clinical activity is the supervision of medical students and residents in the Emergency Department at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, as part of the UCSF Fresno Emergency Medicine residency program. His clinical time consists of the evaluation and treatment of emergency patients in conjunction with UCSF Fresno residents, and the main teaching activity is one-on-one bedside teaching.

Dr. Comes has held numerous leadership roles in the department. He served as the program director of the transitional year program from 1995-2001, residency program assistant program director (1996-1999), associate program director (1999-2007), and program director (2007-2017). He also served as interim chief from 2016-2017 and chief from 2017-2022.
