Ibironke Vivian Adelaja, M.D., FACS, is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of California San Francisco, UCSF Fresno Center for Medical Education and Research.

Dr. Adelaja received her bachelors degree in Microbiology from the University of Texas at Austin and her medical degree at Texas A& M University College of Medicine. Her General Surgery Residency Program was completed at UCSF Fresno and her Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship was completed at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, New Brunswick, New Jersey. She is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.

In 2014, Dr. Adelaja joined the core faculty in the Department of Surgery at Community Regional Medical Center and works at the University Specialty Surgery Associates. Dr. Adelaja is a Breast Surgeon caring for women and men with benign and malignant breast disease. She organizes a multidisciplinary breast conference to develop a comprehensive care plan for cancer patients involving a nurse navigator, geneticists, medical oncologist and radiation oncologists. In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Adelaja is also the Site Director for the UCSF Fresno Department of Surgery Core Clerkship.

Dr. Adelaja is a strong advocate of community involvement. She participates in a number of volunteer activities such as performing sport physicals, preparing meals for out of town families of critically ill patients, informing her local community of health related events, and national health awareness campaigns. She was featured on “Central Valley Today” during 2014 breast cancer awareness month. Dr. Adelaja also participated in the 2015 Valley PBS forum “African Americans and Cancer” during black history month.

In 2011, she received the Surgery Excellence Award for teaching medical students at UCSF Fresno. In 2014, she received the Gallo Research Award for Scientific Excellence from Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

Dr. Adelaja serves as an active member of numerous professional societies including the American College of Surgeons, the National Medical Association, Association of Women Surgeons, Fresno Madera Medical Society, Christian Medical and Dental Association, and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.
