Estrella came to UCSF almost 20 years ago, looking to establish her professional career. Initially, she started as a Purchasing Assistant in the Hem/Onc Division at Mt. Zion, where her curiosity about grant funding began, and eventually, she began her Research Administration career at DOM-SFGH late 2006.

During this time, she grew into a seasoned Research Services Analyst (RSA) managing both pre- and post-award for the HIV/AIDS division while attending school full-time in the evenings (pre-online courses). Estrella graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2010, earning her BS in Business Management from JFK University. This helped tremendously in advancing her UCSF career path because, only a few months after graduation, the Operational Excellence reorganization movement began, and Estrella transitioned to RMS during the pilot phase in 2010 as a Research Services Coordinator, which would lead to a successful 13 year career in the Office of Sponsored Research. In May 2023, Estrella accepted a new role in the School of Dentistry/CTB to expand on her finance knowledge and master the post-award systems, like UC Path and Peoplesoft.
