Emil Barkovich, MD, earned his medical degree at George Washington University in Washington, DC, followed by an internship at West Virginia University in Morgantown. He completed a radiology residency at George Washington University Hospital, where he served as chief resident. He subsequently completed a two-year neuroradiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in 2025, while serving as chief fellow.

Dr. Barkovich has experience in head and neck and pediatric neuroimaging. He is an active medical student, resident and fellow educator and has mentored numerous students and junior trainees. His research interests are varied and have included ultra-high field 7 Tesla MRI, case reports of rare genetic diseases and quality improvement inspired projects focusing on imaging stewardship. He is also interested in evidence-based management guidelines for incidental findings on neuroimaging.
