As the Director of the Office of the Ombuds, Ellen Goldstein provides conflict management services in accordance with the International Ombudsman Association Standards of Practice, upholding confidentiality, impartiality, independence, and informality. Ms. Goldstein trained as a UCSF Volunteer Mediator in 2007 and joined the Office of the Ombuds in 2012.

Her diverse group facilitation experience includes working with both small and large group processes for non-profit organizations, academic efforts, and local and national governmental entities. Prior to joining the Office of the Ombuds, Ms. Goldstein focused on community-engaged research. She co-founded and managed the Clinical and Translational Science Institute's Community Engagement and Health Policy Program, and co-taught the course "Translating Practice to Evidence: Community-Engaged Research" in the Training in Clinical Research program. At UCSF since 1988, her work has focused on HIV/AIDS, health equity, and linking research to applied community practice. She's had the pleasure of working at the AIDS Health Project, Center for AIDS Prevention Studies, and CTSI. Ms. Goldstein 's focus through all these threads has been to support improve collaborations across perspectives, increase productive communication and dialogue between people, and to humanize the workplace/ learning place so that UCSF supports and benefits from all of our community and community partners.
