Dr. Ella Cornell is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine at UCSF, where she divides her clinical time between the general medicine and cardiac hospitalist services. She earned her medical degree from Boston University, where her research focused on disparities in access to post-hospital care, particularly among victims of violence.

She holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Edinburgh and completed her post-baccalaureate premedical training at Columbia University. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at UCSF and served as a Chief Resident at UCSF Parnassus.
Dr. Cornell’s current research focuses on transitions of care for critically ill patients and the allocation of resources to support their care across California. Her interests include access to care for underserved populations, communication of diagnostic uncertainty, health policy, implementation science, and improving care transitions for patients with complex and cardiac conditions.
