Dr. Eliseo J. Perez-Stable, an internist who provides primary care, is chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine at UCSF Medical Center. He is particularly interested in improving the health of poor and minority patients. In his research, he focuses on reducing health risks, such as smoking, in minority populations.

He is Co-PI of the NCI funded Redes En Accion National Latino Cancer Control Research and Education Network. He collaborates with new investigators from several institutions to help develop the tobacco control research agenda for minority populations in the US. Dr. Pérez-Stable also has an R01 grant from the Fogarty International Center/NIDA to strengthen capacity in tobacco control research and implement projects in Argentina. Dr. Pérez-Stable is Director of the UCSF Medical Effectiveness Research Center for Diverse Populations (MERC) and Director of the Center for Aging in Diverse Communities (CADC). MERC and CADC focus on health and health care disparities in African American, Asian American, and Latino populations with a special emphasis on cancer, cardiovascular disease, aging, and reproductive health.

He is the director of the Center for Aging in Diverse Communities, a center that works to help alleviate disparities in health care and to help better understand how health professionals can communicate cross-culturally, and co-director of the UCSF Medical Effectiveness Research Center for Diverse Populations, which is addressing issues for African Americans, Asians and Latinos in the areas of cancer, cardiovascular disease and reproductive health. Perez-Stable is a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.
