Dmitri Young, M.S., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California San Francisco and a Staff Research Scientist at NCIRE.

His research program focuses on establishing links between genetic, neurobiological, and behavioral indicators of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with a particular focus on the neurological underpinnings of trauma-related threat sensitivity and impulsivity. Research suggests that both threat sensitivity and impulsivity are associated with adverse outcomes (e.g. aggression, risky behaviors) in individuals with PTSD. Thus, the aim of Dr. Young’s research is to develop empirically-grounded, biologically-based, individualized treatments that reduce harm and increase the quality of life in people with PTSD. Dr. Young has been the Principal Investigator on multiple funded projects sponsored the Department of Veteran Affairs, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the Brain and Behavior Foundation amongst others.
