Dan Wheeler is an Associate Professor of Medicine at UCSF and a Senior Associate Program Director for the UCSF internal medicine residency program. Clinically, Dan works as a hospitalist at the San Francisco VA Medical Center, caring for veterans on the inpatient wards and in the Veterans' Integrated Perioperative (VIP) Clinic.

In his role as Senior Associate Program Director, Dan oversees resident mentoring and advising and directs professional development for the program's chief residents. He is passionate about clinical teaching and creating supportive, inclusive learning environments in medicine. He is the lead author of a paper that provides medical educators with a toolkit for responding to microaggressions from patients director toward trainees, and has facilitated numerous local, regional, and national workshops on this topic. Prior to his arrival at UCSF, Dan served as curriculum committee chair for the University of Minnesota internal medicine residency program, where he was named 2018 Faculty Teacher of the Year. In 2021, he was inducted into UCSF's Academy of Medical Educators.

Dan is a graduate of Amherst College and the University of Minnesota Medical School. He completed his residency and chief residency at UCSF.
