Dr. Flanagan graduated early from medical school to work in the cardiac ICU as part of the COVID-19 Surge Staffing Response prior to starting residency.
Dr. Flanagan is completing an ACGME fellowship in Clinical Informatics within the UCSF Division of Clinical Informatics and Digital Transformation (Doc-IT) during the 2023-2025 professional development period. She is interested in clinical informatics, and the use of AI/machine learning to augment vascular surgery practice, clinical research, and efficiency in care-delivery. Specifically, she is passionate about the responsible application of AI/ML to transform unstructured clinical data (e.g. notes, images) into structured data to improve administrative efficiency and research database quality. Many of her research interests are population health-based and include medical optimization of vascular surgery patients, increasing appropriate vascular surgery referrals and screening, and improving surveillance for aortic pathologies.
