Since 2014, I have been a general surgery resident at the Massachusetts General Hospital, in Boston, MA. In addition to working in all areas of general surgery, I have been particularly engaged in efforts to connect to the community and decrease the impact of prejudice and bias in the care for surgery patients. SERVICE ACTIVITIES SUMMARY In my residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital, I have participated in numerous activities for the community and the institution, including teaching medical students and resident, and performing community outreach. Contributions to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Guidance Organized and led programming in implicit bias and publishing on the findings of our surgery department at Massachusetts General Hospital TEACHING SUMMARY Informal Teaching as a Resident in General Surgery, awarded the MGH Resident Teaching Award from the Harvard Medical School RESEARCH AND CREATIVE ACTIVITIES SUMMARY Primary research focus is on transplant immunology and the development of sustainable xenotransplantation systems. These efforts include fundamental research into the role of various immune regulatory cells, include regulatory T cells and B cells, in the development of allograft tolerance and large animal studies to understand the impact of genetic modifications on the survival of kidney and liver porcine allografts. Beyond basic science research, I also do research on the equitably distribution of transplant allografts, specifically liver allocation, as well as disparities in healthcare and bias.
