She works to build local capacity to improve the quality and use of routine monitoring and evaluation data, and has collaborated with local institutions to conduct integrated behavioral surveillance surveys (IBBS) among most-at-risk populations. Mrs. Said played a leading role in the development and launch of a master's degree program in Health Monitoring and Evaluation at a Tanzanian university and continues to support university activities, including the development and implementation of M&E and data management related short courses and a regional M&E journal. In addition, Christen has been involved in triangulation projects, data quality assessments, the development and roll out of national data quality assessment guidelines, and designing research protocols.

Prior to working at UCSF Mrs. Said was an ASPH fellow with the Care and Treatment Program at CDC Tanzania. In this capacity, she worked to support the National AIDS Control Program in a national-level data verification exercise, as well as with analysis and costing projections to prepare policy recommendations for the revised WHO Care and Treatment Guidelines. She also designed tools for and built local capacity to conduct secondary analysis of care and treatment program data, identify issues and potential solutions, and used data for programmatic improvement. In addition, Mrs. Said supported the head of the CDC-TZ care and treatment program to manage and support ongoing collaborations and relationships with PEPFAR-funded care and treatment partners.

Mrs. Said has an MPH in Population and Family Health with a focus on Global Health from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, and received her BSc and BA from the University of California, Berkeley. She served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in both Mozambique and Zambia and now lives in Dar es Salaam with her husband and two daughters.
