I am a nurse practitioner, health care administrator, nurse theorist, and Associate Clinical Professor in the UCSF School of Nursing. I teach students in the MS program, the Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Program, the UC multicampus post-master's PMHNP program, and directly train PMHNP students and psychiatric clinical pharmacy residents in clinic.

I provide psychiatric services to adults with a wide range of psychiatric disorders and have experience working with patients at all levels of acuity. I also treat substance use disorders and offer medication-assisted treatment for tobacco, alcohol, and opioid use.

I currently serve as Chair of the School of Nursing Faculty Practice Committee. I am former Chair of the Academic Senate Committee on Sustainability. I am elected Treasurer of the International Society for Evolution, Medicine, and Public Health. Prior to becoming full-time faculty at UCSF, I served as Healthcare Services Director of Bonita House.

Over the past several years, my faculty practices within UCSF Health Primary Care and the Office of Population Health have included the establishment of a successful program providing integrated behavioral health care to primary care patients, psychiatric outreach to homebound patients, and psychiatric consultation to a high-risk medical outreach team and several Collaborative Care teams that expand access to treatment for depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders.

I have adapted certain techniques of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) for efficiency in the primary care setting and train students and providers in these strategies. I also developed and implemented a novel training model to address the shortage of psychiatric providers through training future PMHNPs and clinical pharmacists to collaborate in the care of psychiatric patients (see website below). I am currently developing a conceptual model of nursing called the Self-Repair Facilitation Model while engaged in doctoral studies.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or inquiries.
