Caroline Melhado, MD is a general surgery resident at UCSF. She is currently in her third clinical year and plans to pursue a career in pediatric trauma surgery. Dr. Melhado has a BA in Anthropology and Environmental Studies from Tufts University and received her MD from Tufts University School of Medicine.

She was awarded a Doris Duke International Clinical Research award and spent a year in Malawi researching surgical trauma outcomes and HIV in Pregnancy. She also was selected as a Sam Ho Justice Scholar at Tufts and researched health literacy within a non-English speaking surgical population in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Her research interests include pediatric trauma outcomes and implementation science for marginalized trauma patient populations.
