Dr. Peralta is a clinician investigator. She is Associate Professor of Medicine in Residence and Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Kidney Health Research Collaborative (KHRC).

Her research activities focus on three major areas: (1) Translational approaches to improving care of persons with kidney disease and reduce racial/ethnic disparities; (2) Hypertension, arterial stiffness and kidney disease; and (3) Novel biomarkers for detection, classification and risk stratification of early kidney disease.

Dr. Peralta is a leader in epidemiology of kidney disease and hypertension. She has established collaborations with a multi-disciplinary team of investigators in nephrology, general internal medicine, epidemiology, data science, and human genetics both at UCSF and around the country. She is a pioneer in implementation sciences in nephrology. She has led two trials to evaluate interventions embedded in the electronic health record that are designed to improve the early detection and management of persons with early stages of kidney disease. Dr. Peralta has an interest in digital health, mHealth to use technology to improve CKD care.

Dr. Peralta's work is funded by the National Insitutes of Health, American Heart Association and a Harold Amos Faculty Development Award from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
