Brad Sharpe received his bachelor degree in chemistry from Stanford University and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at UCSF. He currently is an Professor of Clinical Medicine and is a clinician-educator in the Division of Hospital Medicine at UCSF Health.

Brad has had multiple leadership roles at UCSF. Most recently, he served as the Division Chief for the Division of Hospital Medicine at UCSF Health, leading a group with more than 100 faculty and 25 staff. Previously, Brad served as the Associate Program Director for Inpatient Affairs for the UCSF Internal Medicine Residency. Starting in July 2021, Brad now focuses mainly on clinical care and teaching. He has a passion for teaching students, housestaff, and faculty and lectures on topics including community-acquired pneumonia, clinical problem solving, and updates in the medical literature.

Brad also graduated from the Stanford Faculty Development Clinical Teaching Program and gives lectures and seminars to housestaff and faculty on clinical teaching skills.

In addition, Brad has had multiple national roles in academic hospital medicine. He served on multiple committees for the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM), including the Academic Committee; he served on the Board of Directors for the Society of Hospital Medicine for six years. He is the former co-chair of the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) Academic Hospitalist Taskforce. He is also a co-director of the Academic Hospitalist Academy, an annual 4-day “boot camp” for junior academic hospitalists.

Brad lives in San Francisco with his spouse (who is also a physician) and their two children, ages 11 and 8. On weekends, he might be found exercising or having a picnic with his family.
