Biftu has been a clinician-educator in the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital Division of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences since 2017. She works clinically in Labor and Delivery, Gynecology and Family Planning at ZSFG.

She is currently the Associate Residency Program Director, the Associate Director for the Complex Family Planning Fellowship, and the Director for Innovating Education in Reproductive Health. Her interests in medical education center abortion and contraceptive training, incorporating equity and inclusion into the learning environment, curricular development as well as trainee and program evaluation.
