Dr. Ashraf El Naga is an orthopaedic surgeon who cares for patients with traumatic injuries. He also has expertise in spine care including traumatic spine injuries, degenerative spine conditions, scoliosis, spine tumors and infection. In addition to caring for patients at UCSF, he serves as Director of the Orthopaedic Spine Service at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

Dr. El Naga’s research focuses on patient outcomes following fractures and spine trauma. He also studies health care disparities, technical innovations, and ways to improve surgical education.

Dr. El Naga completed his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering at the University of California, Los Angeles, and subsequently attended the University of California, San Francisco for his medical degree. He completed residency training at Baylor College of Medicine followed by subspecialty training in orthopaedic trauma surgery at UCSF's Orthopaedic Trauma Institute and spine surgery at the University of Washington Harborview Medical Center.
