Arianne Teherani, PhD, is Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. She is the Founding Co-Director of the UC Center for Climate Health and Equity, Senior Director of the Center for Advancing Scholarship in Education, and Director of Program Evaluation and Education Continuous Quality Improvement for the UCSF School of Medicine.

Dr. Teherani’s work advances equity and climate solutions in health professions education. Her research focuses on identifying and dismantling educational practices that perpetuate disparities, developing evidence-based approaches to create more equitable learning environments, and studying successful models of educational transformation. She is also a leader in the emerging field of climate and health education, examining how training health professionals can serve as a core strategy for addressing the climate crisis through community-engaged education, healthcare decarbonization, and sustainable health professions training. She collaborates with local, state, national, and international governments and organizations to inform policy and advance evidence-based approaches to health equity, education, and climate action.

Throughout her career, Dr. Teherani has developed and led innovative educational programs and initiatives focused on educational equity, climate change and health, and healthcare sustainability. Her work been featured by media outlets such as National Public Radio, KTVU, and the Huffington Post.

Dr. Teherani has held leadership roles in numerous organizations, including the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, the Association of American Medical Colleges, and the International Association for Health Professions Education. She has also served as a journal editor and mentor to educators and researchers across the country. In recognition of her contributions, she received the UCSF Faculty Sustainability Award and the UC Sustainability Champion Award and was named Faculty Climate Action Champion, an honor awarded to one faculty member at each University of California campus for advancing sustainability and carbon neutrality. She was also elected as a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association, recognizing her sustained and influential contributions to education research.
