Anne M. Suskind, MD, MS received her undergraduate training at Haverford College, where she earned a bachelor degree in Anthropology with honors investigating the anthropological influences surrounding women’s health issues. She next graduated with a distinction in Bioethics from Albany Medical College’s MD program. Dr. Suskind completed her General Surgery and Urology training at the University of Connecticut.

She subsequently completed two fellowships at the University of Michigan, one in Neurourology & Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery and the other in Health Services Research. During her fellowship training, Dr. Suskind obtained a Masters’ Degree in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis from the University of Michigan’s Rackham School of Graduate Studies and was funded by a T32 grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She is a former recipient of the Elisabeth Pickett Research Award from the Society of Women in Urology (SWIU) and the Thomas Benson Award in Neuromodulation from the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS). In 2014, Dr. Suskind became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urology at the University of California, San Francisco, where she currently works at the Parnassus campus.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Suskind’s clinical interests urinary incontinence, vaginal mesh complications, urinary fistulas, interstitial cystitis, overactive bladder, bladder dysfunction due to neurologic disease, and other forms of lower urinary tract dysfunction. Her clinical approach integrates surgical and nonsurgical management of these conditions, including physical therapy, medications, Botox bladder injections, urethral injections for stress urinary incontinence, sacral neuromodulation, posterior tibial nerve stimulation and complex urinary surgical reconstruction. She also offers non-mesh slings for treatment of female stress urinary incontinence and has extensive experience in urodynamic testing and interpretation.

Research Interests

Dr. Suskind is a current recipient of the UCSF Department of Urology’s multidisciplinary K12 Urologic Research (KURe) Career Development Program Award, supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Her current research aims to transform surgical decision-making for older individuals undergoing urologic surgery by studying long term outcomes (such as cognition and function) that matter to patients. Dr. Suskind’s research leverages large national databases and innovative analytical techniques to address these important issues. She is also involved in a Urologic Disease in America (UDA) Project assessing national trends and quality associated with the treatment of recurrent urinary tract infections in women, and she has done extensive research using similar techniques in topics related to sacral neuromodulation, complications associated with sling surgery, and interstitial cystitis. Dr. Suskind’s long-term research goals are to contribute to the quality and delivery of treatment strategies for patients with lower urinary tract dysfunction and other urologic conditions.
