Andrew is an academic hospitalist educator at the San Francisco VA Medical Center where he works on the general medicine wards and surgical co-management services.

His academic interests include arts and humanities-based instruction, professional identity formation, clinical coaching, and medical education-based faculty development. His teaching philosophy centers on wholeness, creativity, and personal relatedness to empower learners for the challenges along the road to the privilege of independent medical practice.

Prior to moving to UCSF he was co-director of the internal medicine subinternship at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and director of museum-based visual art instruction for the Penn internal medicine residency program. He received his master's degree in medical education from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education.
